Joining ‘The Westernairs Concert Wind Band’ is not difficult. There is no discrimination. You may be male or female, any genetic origin, young or old, pretty or ugly. One or two of us are pretty ugly. More seriously, we want more members. You should be interested in playing in the band, and preferably have and play a wind instrument. Your standard of playing is not a critical factor. Of course we want good players, but even if you are a complete beginner, there is no need for embarrassment on that account. Your ability will normally improve with time as you play with others. If you are just keen to learn more about us, even though you may have no playing ability, you could come along and visit us, and talk about it, or get advice. The best place to meet us is at our practice evenings, these being almost every Tuesday at 7.30 pm, in the Methodist Church Hall, Station Road, Liskeard. Get there at about 7.00 to 7.15 pm and you’ll see members going in with instruments. We practice for 2 hours with a short interval, but young children are usually collected by their parents after the first hour.
Alternatively, you could contact any member or via this website. (Click here)
When you first attend a practice session, we will register a few details, such as your name, address and, whether you are under 19, and therefore receive some benefits on being classed as a Junior. If you are 19 or over you are simply classed as Adult.. You will also be advised on procedures within the band. We would expect you to spend a few practice sessions with us as a settling-in period, before deciding whether to join or not. There is no obligation to join, but if you decide against it, we would like you to let us know for our own records.
